Katagory V was formed in 1999 by bassist/songwriter Dustin Mitchell, and former members Curtis Morrell and Matt Suiter. The band would later add an additional guitarist and vocalist Lynn Allers to the band by 2000. They would go on to release their first album, "Present Day" independently in 2001 which created a huge buzz in the underground metal scene across the globe, and then sign to the now-defunct Metal Ages Records for their 2nd album "A New Breed of Rebellion" in 2004. 

Katagory V would sign to the Minnesota-based label, Nightmare Records, for the release of their 3rd album "The Rising Anger" in 2006, and quickly followed it up with a 4th album in 2007 titled "Hymns of Dissension", which was also released on Nightmare Records in the United States, and on Burning Star Records in Europe.

Through out their career, Katagory V has performed with other national acts both in Utah and across the United States, opening or co-headlining performances with metal legends such as Anvil, Omen, Metal Church, Leatherwolf, Meliah Rage, Helstar, Agent Steel, Vicious Rumors, Imagika and many more. Katagory V would also act as a backing band for Metal Church singer Ronny Munroe for some of his live performances near the end of 2007.

Over a decade as a band, Katagory V would go through numerous line up changes, with Bassist Dustin Mitchell as the only original member and mainstay. The band went on hiatus at the end of 2008, however, came back again at the end of 2009 with several new members, including Chicago, Illinois native Abert Rybka on vocals, guitars Kris Krompel, Drummer Matt “Bizzaro” Lefevre, and former guitarist Marc Hanson (also in Super So Far) .

Katagory V is currently performing live once again, and is recording their 5th album titled "Resurrect the Insurgence", to be released in late 2010
